Fire Schools and Fire Wagons

Objectives
Officially known as “Training and Acquisition of Wildfire Response Equipment,” but we call it the “Fire Schools and Fire Wagons” project.
Total project funding is $644,728 with $432,000 allocated to the two Fire Wagons (Wildfire Structural Protection Unit Trailers) and the remaining to providing Fire Schools (Wildland Fire Training).
WHO IS INVOLVED?
The PRFA will implement the project and manage the Fire Wagons in collaboration with community partners, including the long-term maintenance of the trailers and equipment. Northern Fire WoRx and Shifting Mosaics Inc will provide certified BC Wildfire instructors for Wildland Fire Training and wildfire expertise throughout the project.
PROJECT VISION
(a) Empower agriculture producers to protect their infrastructure & assets.
(b) Provide rural community protection and resources in the Peace Region in emergency response situations pertaining to wildfire, and
(c) Further the goals of the association in support of a viable/sustainable industry.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
1) acquire 2 wildfire structural protection trailers (Fire Wagons ) and strategically locate them in Peace Region (with producers who have pre-existing experience with wildland firefighting),
2) train agriculture producers in the safe and proper use of equipment to effectively fight wildfire,
3) train and implement proper maintenance & care of the acquired equipment, and
4) maintain a database of trained agriculture producers & facilitate annual recertification requirements.

PLANNED PROJECT ACTIVITIES
Year 1:
(1) Acquire 2 Fire Wagons.
(2) Spring – provide basic Wildland Fire Training
(3) Fall – provide care and maintenance of equipment training.
Year 2:
(1) Spring – provide basic Wildland Fire Training and intermediate Wildland Fire Training,
(2) Fall – provide care and maintenance of equipment training,
(3) provide recertification of previous training participants.
The PRFA of BC received funding for Training & Acquisition of Wildfire Response Equipment (aka Fire Schools & Fire Wagons) through the IAF Food Security Emergency Planning & Preparedness Fund. The project will continue until Dec 31, 2025.
2024
(1) Provided 6 Fire Schools (Wildland Fire Training) where 150 people were trained on equipment used on the fire line (April 8-9, April 9-10, April 22-23, April 23-24, April 26-27 and April 27-28th). They all learned about fire behaviour and received their ICS100, S100 and S185 which are recognized by the BC Wildfire Service.
(2) Purchased 2 Fire Wagons (Structural Protection Units). Unveiled the first Fire Wagon (Fire Wagon #1) on August 13th.
