Manure Spreading & Composting Demonstration

Status: Completed

Project Timeline: January 2008 – December 2010

Objectives

  1. To work with teams, partners and cooperators to identify key demonstration projects
  2. To demonstrate effective ways to help farmers manage their manure and compost (BMPs)
  3. To provide tools and information to farmers to encourage adoptions of manure and compost BMPs.

Progress

  • Set up demos with 7 key cooperators with manure, compost and compost tea.
  • Set up cooperative agreements with 2 soil labs and sampled starting baselines for all demos.
  • Partnered with Peace Region Forage Seed Association to hire Vicki Moser for summer of 2008 and to hire Megan Harwood and Courtney Thompson for summer 2009.
  • Matched funds for extensive monitoring and demos ended March 2010
  • Equipment available for rent to producers.
