This recently developed and released Checklist, is intended to support Range Tenure Holders while applying for approval of a planned Prescribed Fire.

This Checklist is part of a current PRFA of BC Project called “Evaluating the Use of Prescribed Fire to Rejuvenate Forage Pastures and its Impact on Soil Health.”

Project Plan: assess forage production/quality following prescribed fire & grazing, along with soil chemical/microbial properties and soil carbon.

Project Duration: 3 years (2024, 2025 & 2026). Final reporting March 2027

Project Sites: 4 sites (Jack Thiessen’s, Ardill Ranch, Bear Mountain Community Pasture and Neil Ward’s).

Treatments: 1) unburned/ungrazed, 2) unburned/grazed, 3) burned/ungrazed, and 4) burned/grazed.

Project Purpose:  Provide important information to producers seeking pasture rejuvenation with prescribed fire, and generate data to understand the impact of  prescribed fire on soil carbon.
